Second Harvest and Food Lion Announce Neighbor Helping Neighbor Collaboration
With the assistance of $100,000 in Critical Need Response Funds, Second Harvest and Food Lion teamed up to help neighbors in need by collaborating with several of the Food Bank's partner agencies. 100% of the $100,000 was used to purchase food at cost from Food Lion.
The food was used to serve the community with several projects including:
- The distribution of 1600 pantry boxes in April and May through special distribution days held at the Food Bank. These distributions served mainly newly unemployed families referred to us by our partner agency and neighbor Crisis Assistance Ministry
- Delivery of 1800 senior pantry boxes to 18 different low-income senior housing sites. All of these sites are managed by our partner and neighbor, the Charlotte Housing Authority
- Providing $10,000 worth of nutritious snacks for low income and homeless children working with our partner agencies and neighbors, A Child's Place and Assistance League
- Replenishing supplies for the Second Harvest Backpack Program
- Delivering bags of fresh fruit to thousands of children at our Kids Café sites
Thanks to all of our partners and neighbors for working together to meet the critical needs in our community!
