Your Help Counts

As the largest grocery corporate partner of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Food Lion enables customers to help local kids through various campaigns. From June 6 through June 26, Food Lion will be selling Miracle Balloons and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals bracelets at the register for $1 each, and customers get coupons with their Miracle Balloon purchase. 100% of the funds raised stay local, benefiting the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in that community. Other CMN promotions run through September 30, allowing more opportunities to help local children and their families. Donations also help support research and training, purchase equipment and pay for uncompensated care.

In addition, our stores, distribution centers and corporate locations host fund raisers such as car shows, customer appreciation days, food sales, golf tournaments, bike rides, bowling tournaments and many more activities.

Food Lion celebrated their 20th year of partnership with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in 2011. A record year, Food Lion stores exceeded their fundraising goal and raised an impressive $4.2 million. The 2011 Children's Miracle Network balloon sales resulted in large donations of:

• $501,045.80 to Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center, Durham, N.C.
• $470,670.60 to Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
• $443,483.00 to Levine Children's Hospital, Charlotte, N.C.
• $347,906.26 to Children's Hospital of Richmond, Richmond, VA
• $305,379.58 to Univ. Health Systems of Eastern Carolina's CH, Greenville, N.C.
• $183,126.08 to Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Baltimore, M.D.
• $120,437.06 to McLeod Children's Hospital, Florence, S.C.
• $119,922.92 to Univ. of VA Children's Hospital, Charlottesville, VA
• $117,450.51 to Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, Columbia, S.C.

Throughout our history of supporting Children's Miracle Network Food Lion has made major gifts to our local Children's Miracle Network hospital. Major gift announcements include:

• $300,000 pledge to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital for Food Lion naming of Children’s Surgery Center Waiting Room.
• $1.0 million pledge to University of Virginia Children's Hospital for community health initiatives.
• $500,000 to Levine Children's Hospital for Children's Research Center Endowment.
• $1.5 million to Levine Children's Hospital for Pediatric Rehabilitation Floor.
• $100,000 to Medical University of South Carolina to help expand their Lean Team, helping to prevent and treat childhood obesity.
• $250,000 gift to Duke Children's Hospital for New Food Allergy Program.
• $100,000 gift to Duke Children's Hospital to create Nutrition Center.
• $500,000 pledge to Palmetto Children's Hospital Health Foundation for nurses station and patient playroom.
• $250,000 gift to Johns Hopkins Children's Center for new patient playroom.
• $1 million to VCU Medical Center to renovate Pediatric Intensive Care Unit .
• $1 million to University of Virginia Children's Hospital for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• $1 million to Children's National Medical Center for Neurology Outpatient Clinic.
• $627,000 to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters for Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit.
• $1 million to Carolinas Healthcare System Children's Hospital for Pediatric Rehabilitation Pavilion.
