Food Lion is proud to offer customers our Guiding Stars program so they can use it to help make healthier choices when shopping at our stores.

August 4th, 2009 “Acting Surgeon General Steve Gaston singled out the Guiding Stars nutrition rating system as an effective way to change consumer behavior and a gold standard of how to get Americans back to healthy eating.”

Food Lion aspires to enrich the lives of the communities in which we operate. We donate products that fill needs within our communities, and donate to several charities that serve the greater good.

2009 Donations

• Products donated by the company directly to charities/hunger relief: 28,277,937 pounds
• Cash donations by the company directly to charities: $3,112,775
• Cash raised through customers for charities and community projects: $6,610,000

We believe associates are our ambassadors for health and wellness. Our responsibility is to ensure we promote their wellness and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The Food Lion Blue Points program links health performance with discounts. Associates can exchange earned points for gift vouchers, but the points can be won only by doing things such as 30 minutes of exercise, eating five portions of fruits and vegetables every day or having an eye test.
