Food Lion and Feeding America Southwest Virginia Distribute $10,000 in Food to Local Residents Needing Food Assistance

SALEM, VA – Food Lion is donating $10,000 of its store-brand food products to Feeding America Southwest Virginia to distribute to nearly 400 pre-selected Salem families at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 21 at 1025 Electric Road in Roanoke, Va.

“Food Lion is a strong community partner and is dedicated to assisting hunger relief and nutrition education programs in the communities we serve,” said Bill Garcia, Community Relations Manager for Food Lion. “Participating in the food distribution event in Salem, Virginia is another great opportunity for us to give back to our customers.”

Local residents, who received assistance from 13 other local pantries, were selected to participate in Monday’s event.

“Food Lion has been a partner in providing hunger relief to the local communities that we serve,” said Pamela Irvine, President and CEO of Feeding America Southwest Virginia. “None of the work that is done at Feeding America Southwest Virginia could be done without the support of partners such as Food Lion.”

David Burgess, Director of the 82nd Airborne/Christian Soldiers Food Pantry agrees.

“Food Lion was one of our main supporters when the 82nd Airborne/Christian Soldiers Food Pantry first started operating over 16 years ago,” Burgess said. “Over the years they have continued to provide food and in-kind donations.”
