Food Lion to Donate $5,000 to Feed Local Families

Grocer to Deliver Food Donation August 13 to Help Feed WNC Families

Asheville. NC— Food Lion is donating store-brand food products valued at $5,000 to MANNA FoodBank in Asheville on Monday, August 13 at 10 a.m. to help families in need in Western North Carolina.

“Food Lion is a strong community partner and is dedicated to assisting hunger relief and nutrition education programs in the communities we serve,” said Maria Quant-Young, community relations supervisor for Food Lion. “Participating in the food distribution event in Asheville is another great opportunity for us to give back to our customers.”

According to Beth Stahl, MANNA’s Education and Youth Services Coordinator, “Although summer is a relaxed, happy family time for many, it is a time of additional stress for those with already-strained resources, as children are not in school and not able to benefit from school nutrition programs. This donation gives a much-needed boost of nutritious foods as our demand continues to grow through the summer. These supplies will reach parts of each of the 16 counties we serve in WNC.”

The food donation, valued at $5,000, includes a variety of non-perishables, such as the following:

• Cereal
• Peanut butter
• Canned mixed vegetables
• Canned corn
• Pasta sauce
• Fruit cocktail
• Canned ham
• Tuna
• Canned Salmon
• Rice
• Canned green beans
• Canned sweet peas
