Kids Who Play Sports Often Have Better Diets
University of Minnesota researchers say adolescents who play sports have better eating habits and nutrient intake than those who do not.
According to the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, the research study looked at more than 4,700 junior high and high school students. Researchers paid close attention to meal and snack frequency, energy and nutrient intake.
Researchers say they found "sport-involved youth generally ate breakfast more frequently and had higher mean protein, calcium, iron, and zinc intakes than their non-sport involved peers."
This supports the positive association between youth sport participation and health, say researchers.
