Go green
You can go green by taking a few simple steps:
- Change your light bulbs. Switch from incandescent to CFL or LED bulbs. You'll save money on your energy bill, and the bulbs will last for years.
- Turn the lights off when you leave a room. Lighting uses 19 percent of worldwide energy. Help bring that number down.
- Use less paper. Pay bills online.
- Recycle. Find out what your city is doing and do it.
- Use recyclable paper bags. Plastic is out. Better yet: Buy reusable grocery bags and carry them with you when you shop.
- Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.
- Unplug unused appliances. Your cell phone charger, for example. The toaster is another.
- Buy wisely. Replace large appliances with Energy Star brands. Buy low-flow toilets.
- Don't run your dishwasher unless it is full.
