About Feeding America
Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Our mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors.
Our network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than 2.5 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. The Feeding America network supports approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies that distribute food directly to Americans in need. Those agencies operate more than 70,000 programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes and BackPack Programs.

Working Together to Eliminate Hunger
All Food Lion stores are encouraged to partner with local food banks and make year-round food donations.
"Food Lion continues to lead the supermarket industry with new and innovative programs," said Eric Davis, Feeding America director of program development. Food Lion was "the first retailer to donate perishable products from retail stores and have offered [its] experience with this program to other retailers in an effort to help grow the program nationally. Food Lion's willingness to share their experience has led other retailers to start retail donation programs."
Each holiday season, all Food Lion stores participate in the "Hunger Has a Cure" campaign to support local food banks affiliated with the Feeding America, formerly America's Second Harvest Network.
Food Lion customers can support their local food banks and feed the hungry by making monetary contributions at the register or purchasing ready-made, discounted boxes of food. All monetary and food donations will stay in the communities where given to feed the hungry.
Customers may contribute any amount at the register. The ready-made boxes of food can be bought for $4.99. The boxes of food will go directly to a local food bank. All donations will be added to the customer's total bill and shown on the receipt for easy record keeping.
