Hailing from the sailing capital of the world – Annapolis, MD, elevated by conviction, genuine character, and elegance, Ebony Acton wears the crown to continue the great legacy of Virginia State University. At five years old, she established her dreams – thus, when she became a Trojan, she began a quest to fulfill each one. Upon arriving at Virginia State University, Ebony ran for, and became, Miss Freshman. Based on her character, involvement, and school spirit, she went on to become Miss Sophomore, a member of the world renowned Virginia State University Woo Woos, and a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Despite her social involvement, she has maintained a cumulative 3.4 GPA while aspiring to obtain her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Through much preparation and determination, Ebony was crowned Miss Virginia State University 2016-2017.
Being a campus queen is more than just the physical attributes; it is how the crown is used to empower and inspire others. Ebony’s platform, Trojans Need U.N.I.T.Y. – Understanding of purpose, Navigating the future, Impacting the community, Taking action and Yearning for Excellence – emphasizes the need to embrace one’s sense of self and community.
