Hailing from Columbia, SC, the Capital of Southern Hospitality, Da'Shunnda Hayward-White wears the crown of Miss Virginia State University 2017-2018 to be shining example to empower and inspire others. A Provost Scholar, she is an English major with the desire to become a Judge Advocate General in the US Air Force.

Da’Shunnda is a member of Kerojo Modeling Agency, Limited, Student Government Association, and the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as well as the former 2014-2015 Freshman Class President, Miss Sophomore 2015-2016, and Miss Junior 2016-2017. This past September, Da’Shunnda became the first Miss Virginia State University to compete in the Miss National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame competition, where she placed as first runner-up. 

The oldest of ten children, Da’Shunnda understands the importance and role of positive mentorship, which prompted her to create her platform F.I.R.E (Fearlessly Igniting Resilience Every day). F.I.R.E promotes positive mentorship both on and off campus, and provide students with tools to have a successful collegiate experience. She lives by the philosophy "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value," as she recognizes the importance of using ones gifts to sow back into the community.
