Add some fall flavor to a classic grilled cheese sandwich with Granny Smith apple slices stacked between two slices of melted Gouda cheese, served up on toasted, buttered bread.
- Place the slices of bread on a flight surface. Place 1 slice of cheese each on top of 2 slices of bread. Cut apple slices and divide evenly between the two sandwiches. Place on top of each slice of cheese. Add another slice of cheese, and top with the remaining bread slices. Spread butter across the top piece of bread.
- Position the sandwiches on a skillet, buttered side facing down, and place over medium heat. Spread butter across the top piece of bread now. Place a sandwich press or heavy bottom skillet on top of the sandwiches to press them down. Cook on the first side until browned, for about 3-4 minutes. Gently flip the sandwiches and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the other side to brown.
- Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately!
