Ice cream is a dessert many of us love, especially during warm summer days. And although a bowl of ice cream with sprinkles is delicious, our Caramel Walnut Bloomin’ Apple recipe takes the creamy frozen dessert to the next level! And with gooey caramel and toasted walnuts, this treat is nutty, decadent and something the whole family will love. Although the recipe calls for red apples, you can certainly choose Granny Smith apples to make it a little less sweet or yellow apples if those are your favorite variety. The apple choice is yours!
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Toast the walnuts on a dry skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
- Slice off the tops of your apples and use a melon baller to remove the core. Then, cut each apple into even slices, careful not to slice all the way through. Place the apples right-side-up in a greased glass casserole dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and flour. Whisk until thickened and brush the mixture over your apples evenly. Place 2 caramel candies in each apple and sprinkle with toasted walnuts.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the apples are tender. Drizzle with caramel sauce and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for each apple.
Recipe Tip: Instead of a melon baller, you can also use a small knife and/or spoon to remove the apple cores.
