Whether you’re planning a family backyard BBQ for a holiday, like Memorial Day, or simply wanting to enjoy some time in the beautiful outdoors, firing up the grill to prepare your meal is always a highlight. But what if you’re wanting to switch things up and cook something plant-based? This Hawaiian Plant-Based Burger could be the perfect choice. With a combination of pineapple, carrots, cabbage, teriyaki sauce and plant-based burgers, this grilled sandwich is savory, a little sweet and slightly tangy.


Select ingredients:


  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and oil the grates.
  2. Whisk together the mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of teriyaki sauce and pepper in a medium bowl. Add the red cabbage, carrot, scallion and cilantro and mix to evenly combine. Set aside.
  3. Place the pineapple slices and burger patties on the preheated grill. Baste the pineapple with remaining teriyaki sauce. Cook the pineapple slices and patties 2-3 minutes on each side.
  4. Place the burger patties on hamburger buns and layer with cooked pineapple slices and prepared slaw. Serve immediately.
