You’ve probably enjoyed a bag of potato chips, tortilla, corn or even bean chips, but this crunchy snack is made from a savory green banana – plantains! Commonly loved in Hispanic areas, including Latin America, Spain and so on, plantain chips are a tasty snack you and your family absolutely must try! And with this recipe, we’ve made it easy to make them at home – baked in the oven instead of fried. Enjoy them as-is for a quick bite in the afternoon, as an appetizer with salsa and guacamole for dipping or as a side with your sandwich, tacos or quesadilla at lunch.
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, kosher salt and chili powder. Set aside.
- Wash and peel the plantains. Use a sharp knife to cut them into thin slices. Add plantains to the bowl with your spice mixture and toss to coat.
-
Lay plantain slices in an even layer on 2 baking sheets. Bake for 20 minutes or until crisp.
Recipe Tip: Add a pinch or two of cayenne pepper to turn these into spicy plantain chips.
