- Melt butter over low heat. Add cheese and stir until melted.
- In a large separate bowl mix sour cream, chopped onions, salt and pepper.
- Add melted butter/cheese to sour cream mix and stir.
- Add frozen potatoes and stir.
- Bake in 13x9 inch glass dish 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours depending on how brown you want your potatoes, stirring every 30 minutes.
- Let sit for 5 minutes and serve.
