My mother-in-law's German Chocolate Cake recipe, delicious!

  1. For Cake: Cream shortening and sugar until creamy Add egg yolks that have been slightly beaten Sift flour and soda and add with buttermilk and chocolate to the mix Add beaten egg whites with salt and vanilla Divide and pour mix into (3) greased and floured 9" diameter pans Bake 350 until it springs back when touched in the middle
  2. For Frosting: Combine milk, sugar, beaten egg yolks and butter in pan; Cook until thickens Add nuts, coconut and vanilla Remove from stove and let cool Beat and spread between layers of cooled cake
