Mixing blueberries, bananas and strawberries into a colorful salad on July 4th isn' t new, but here is a fun way to turn what' s normally a vertical salad into a patriotic statement. Don' t make this until it' s almost time to serve it, because bananas look best and are at their lightest color when freshly peeled and will serve as the white stripes in your American flag salad. You will also need a rectangular white baking dish or serving platter with a minimum of 1 inch sides to hold the fruit in the shape of a flag.

Directions

  1. Wash all fruit thoroughly and drain. Place your platter on the counter horizontally in relationship to where you'™re standing.
  2. Chop strawberries first and place them aside. Chop bananas in similar sizes. Add strawberries in a long narrow row along the bottom of the platter closest to you. Next add a row of bananas and so on until half of the platter is full.
  3. Then continue rows of bananas and strawberries beginning in the middle of the platter, leaving an empty square in the top left of the platter. Fill in that space with blueberries and serve immediately.
