Showcase your patriotic spirit with this spectacular red, white, and blue pie!
Wash and pit the cherries.
Place them in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 cup of sugar, the vanilla, and the cornstarch.
Cook, stirring frequently, until the cherries have softened and the juices have thickened. Remove from heat and let the cherries cool.
In a bowl, toss the blueberries with a ½ cup of sugar.
Place one of the pie crusts in a pie pan, press it carefully into the pan and flute the edges with your fingers.
Prepare an 8x6-inch piece of aluminum foil by folding it in half two times until it measures 8x1½. Place the aluminum foil piece in the pie pan as shown in the photo (this will help to keep the berries separate). Fill the small side with the blueberries and the large side with the cherries. Remove the foil divider.
Take the second portion of pie crust and cut out stars and stripes of various sizes to simulate the stars and stripes on the American flag.
Place the stars over the blueberries and the stripes over the cherries.
- Cover the edges of the pie with aluminum foil and bake in a 375-degree oven for the first 30 minutes of baking (to prevent over-browning). Remove the foil and bake another 30 minutes.
