These Spider Donuts may look creepy and crawly, but they are actually oh-so-tasty, plus a fun activity for the whole family to create together for Halloween. All you need is a box of your favorite go-to chocolate cake mix, the ingredients we’ve listed below for the glaze, pretzels and candy eyes. That’s it! Then, you’re ready to get baking and decorating with your loved ones.
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a mini donut pan or standard donut pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Mix together the cake mix, egg, vegetable oil and 1 cup of milk in a medium bowl until combined.
-
Transfer the mixture to a large resealable bag. Cut the tip off one corner and pipe the batter into each donut cavity, filling 2/3 full.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and then transfer the donuts to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Re-grease the pan and bake the remaining batter until it is used up.
- To make the topping, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla and 2 tablespoons in a medium bowl.
-
Dip the top of each donut into the chocolate glaze and add two eyes.
-
Break the pretzel rings in half and add to the donuts as spider legs.
Recipe Tip: For a fun twist, dip the pretzels in melted chocolate and allow to harden before adding to the donuts. If using store bought donuts, choose chocolate frosted donuts and attach the eyes with melted chocolate.
