Simple and sweet, this easy dessert makes the most of one of the season’s beloved stone fruits – plums. Simmered in sweet red wine, like Roscato brand, along with cinnamon, vanilla, brown sugar and orange zest for 15 minutes, this fruity treat tastes great as-is with a little whipped cream or served over sliced pound cake.
- Add the plums, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, orange zest and red wine to a large sauté pan. Add enough water to just cover the plums. Bring to a boil over medium heat and reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15 minutes or until the plums are soft.
- Remove the plums from the sauce and transfer to a dish. Bring the sauce to a boil and reduce until syrup consistency.
- Serve the plums and syrup over sliced pound cake and garnish with whipped cream.
